RE: Adios

Hi George,
Hate to see you succumb to a few bad apples. I have thought the same as you on many ocassions.
However the thirst for knowledge in the RV field keeps me here. I have learned so much from so many good folks here.

RE: I just have a general forum question

I recently posted a camping related video and was told I was the 200th person to post it. I had never seen it.
My question really is how do people spend so much time on these forums to where they are seeing this stuff over and over again. Are forums thier whole life? I mean I log on a few times during the day while I am doing other things on the computer but man, people really seem to live their lives on these forums! How many hours a day do you guys spend on forums like this? Im just curious. Like I said for me its maybe at most a total of 1 hour a day on this one and I dont really have any others I look at. :R
And, we even have spell check!!!:B

RE: So you still want ot go fulltime? Are you nuts?

It's kind of like learning to swim. Your instructor has you in the water and you start to panic because your feet no longer touches the bottom. Your instructor has you try a few simple strokes and suddenly you are treading water. Pretty soon as your confidence grows and you start to swim you realize this is pretty neat...
Makes no difference if you are swimming in 4' of water or 4000' of water.
You do whatever it takes to stay afloat...:W
The best part, as a fulltimer, is you can pick who with and where at you want to swim...
Actually if you get away from the big cities and tourist traps, generally speaking, commodities tend to be a bit more affordable...:B

RE: Generator Question

Lots of RV'er have the Honda twins and are very, very, very happy. Reason being that two is lighter but more powerful than one. The cost should be about the same. If you don't mind lugging 140lbs+ around, one genny is easier to maintain for that matter. Of course, maintenance is a piece of cake for the twins as well so I guess it does not really matter. I have the twins and I like the set up. I just like the 50lbs-much easier my back.
Works great for me for about 3 years now...:W

RE: Cheap gensets

I can understand trying to save money. But why buy something that no one will repair. Or you have a hard time finding a repair shop. I see no savings in a set that burns out ten minutes after you start it. I would stick with brands that you can depend on getting fixed. Iam on disability and a tight budget,so I know about try to save money.
Hey Texas, although I agree wholeheartedly with you, this is one argument you ain't a gonna win!!!:B

RE: Which One Of These Generators Would You Get?

> Which One Of These Generators Would You Get?
Neither! I would spend the extra money for a Yamaha or Honda Inverter genset. I have a Yamaha EF3000iseb with 1000+ hours on it. Very Quiet and very economical so far as fuel usage.
Ditto! Honda twins here...:W

RE: HD LCD TV -- Not what model, but IF ...

This is NOT a question about installing a HD LCD TV, but whether there is a NEED to provide some extra measures to:Provide "cushioning" for the TV with shock absorbing (foam or rubber) properties, when driving?Provide a method to "lock" the TV into (or onto) the existing cabinet
We had a TV/AV "specialist" advise us that they DO home theater installations but declined to provide installation in a motor home. They were concerned that the TV would become a "falling missile" (our TV cabinet is above the driver's chair) in case of an accident or due to road vibration. They didn't feel the normal home wall or ceiling mounts were sufficient. Liability issue, I guess.
Those of you who have replaced your CRT's with LCD's, are those "real" concerns? Vibration? Secure mounting?
Securing is a must. I learned that the hard way. Brand new 26" LCD in the cabinet and when I got to destination it was jammed between the slide and the cabinet and resting on the below cabinet door knobs. Bent both knobs down. Had a hard time reaching in with 1 hand and trying to dislodge and lift the 35 lb thing up!!!;)
Fortunately no damage to the TV and it is still working just fine...:)
Since then I cover the TV with a small blanket, place a pillow in front and I installed 2 eyehooks inside cabinet and secure the TV with a bungee cord. No more problems and it saves having to remove the TV for travel and disconnecting all those wires...:B

RE: Learning Everything the Hard Way

Watching the movie "RV" might help you laugh a bit.
Don't worry, all those experiences have -- 1) been experienced by all of us, and 2) gives you something to laugh about around the campfire.
(except the burn part. Hope all is well now)
Ditto!!!

RE: Possible solution to smoking cigarettes

This isn't a commercial but I've found something that has led me to stop smoking after 60 years of puffing on those stupid cigarettes... At least I've been off those dang things for 9 days and I've never gotten past a full day until I ran across a product called COMMIT which I bought at WALGREENS...It's an over the counter smoking aid that, for the first time, has stopped my craving to smoke and puff on those darn things...Granted, it's only been 9 days without smoking but I think I have my problem solved...Only time will tell but I'm off to a good start...Since I've never quit for more than one day in the past I'm confident I can stay off them and breathe a breath of fresh air for a change...The snow man...:)
Congratulations!!!
I too have been trying Commit that I got at Walmart and so far it is the only product I have ever tried that actually stops that craving. 1 lozenge, Commit, lasts about 2-3 hours for me.
Have not been quite as successful as you but I am working on it...:)

RE: I guess it's my turn - clogged black tank

I don't have one but it seems that the Flush King description needs one extra step. After inputting water from the garden hose, with the downstream gate valve closed and the upstream valve open, I think one should CLOSE the upstream valve, shut off the water, remove the hose, and seal the hose connection. Then dump as usual.
If not, how does one keep the `stuff' out of the garden hose?
Has a backflow preventer built in...

RE: I guess it's my turn - clogged black tank

A device called a "Flush King" might help. It attaches to the drain outlet where your sewer hose normally would connect), and includes a gate valve and an inlet for a garden hose on the upstream side of the gate valve. On the downstream side of the gate valve is a connection for your sewer hose.
Looks like this: (Your normal sewer outlet connection is on the right of the photo)
http://www.flushking.com/newphoto06.jpg
What this thing does is forces water "backwards" up into the tank from the drain side which sometimes can tumble the "stuff" around and loosen a clog.
After forcing some water upstream into the tank, shut off the incoming water and open the gate valve on Flush King to drain. You may need to repeat this a few cycles to fully clear all the "clumps".
Of course be careful you don't overfill from this direction and cause an overflow inside!
Probably one of the best investments I have made for my TT. Works great and simple to use...:)

RE: So how many have done this.

soren, if nothing else, your rant was certainly entertaining.
BTW, what exactly IS a "horse's axe"?:p Oddly, if you enter the correct part of the horse's anatomy, it disappears pretty quickly:h. I'm glad you enjoyed the prose. I am always amazed at the current and retired Barneys and Dirty Harrys on this site who are upset and amazed that all members here aren't ready to genuflect to their power, and lick their boots as expected. There are many decent, honest, mentally balanced folks in the field, and I think I may have met at least one. That said, it is also awash with folks who are a real disasters and make it quite clear every time they open their mouths, or bang their knuckles on the keyboard. Rant over, have a nice day......OH, for the love of dog, can you really believe that a security guard, or whatever he is, would sign off with "have a nice day"? Wow, no issues there, EH?
WOW!!! Talk about someone with issues....:E

RE: Paying bills.

I know that it does but it is more secure. I use wifi in my own house and we have control over how much security is used on it. Using a public wifi you have no control over the security of it!
You don't have to buy into it, but I will not be crying in my cheerios because my bank and CC info was stolen because I used a public wifi!
Been using both for several years with no problems. With the SSL security used by most financial as well as most online businesses the risk is small.
But then nothing is absolutely secure and I promise you will not hear me cry. I do like Cheerios however...:B
